Chevrolet Corvette Review

Marking the sixth generation inheritance, the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 provide more power, passion and precision to achieve new standards of excellence in automotive performance.
2005 Corvette is more influenced by competition than previous Corvettes. The goal is performance cars that will be comfortable in almost any environment. This means that the raw performance, improved ride comfort, body precisely built and technically in a new, sophisticated and contemporary.
"The sixth generation is a comprehensive upgrade of the Chevrolet Corvette," said Dave Hill, Corvette chief engineer of GM Performance Cars vehicle and high-end "Our goal is to create a Corvette that does more things. As well as the performance of each car."
The car features dramatic new styling, the new 6.0L V-8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque (298 kW and 542 Nm), revised suspension and brakes are more powerful. It offers extreme performance capabilities and offer value, style, quality and comfort.
2005 Coupe production begins in the summer of 2004, with the following conversion in the fall of 2004. Sales in Europe will begin in October 2004, and other areas in early 2005. All models will be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky
Exterior styling
Chevrolet Corvette combines classic cues with an expressive new design. While the design team uses the latest advanced computer-aided engineering design, they rely heavily on traditional hand sculpture. Sculptor scans every inch of the surface of the car. Aerodynamic development combined digital simulations, Corvette Racing experience and more than 400 hours of wind tunnel testing.
The driving force behind the exterior is to keep the freshness, but filter the passion exemplified by mid-year Chevrolet Corvette 1963-1967.
Chevrolet Corvette C6 is 5 inches (127 mm) shorter and about 1 inch (25 mm) narrower than its predecessor. Larger wheels (18 inch front, 19 inches rear) are topped by dramatic fender forms. Headlights open (not visible in the Chevrolet Corvette since 1962) combine with the grille to create a "face" strong in the car. Fixed Xenon high intensity discharge lamp performance to provide high-quality lighting.
Cut the removable roof panel is 15 percent larger, but offers the same structural rigidity Chevrolet Corvette C5, while weighing only 1 pound (0.45 kg) more. Tapered rear deck and fascia improve high-speed performance. Taillight design sleek sports center and rounded tail exhaust.
The ability to maintain lines and smooth surfaces are supported by technology. For example, the Keyless Access system replaces traditional mechanical door and hatch handles with solenoids and electronic actuators.
At 0.28 coefficient of drag, the C6 is the most aerodynamic Corvette ever and has improved anti-lift characteristics that improve high speed stability.
Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

2005 Corvette has a powered soft top option. Easy to use manual as standard. Both configurations use a five-layer fabric that conceals the underlying structure for top-up looks good, plus it helps preserve the car excellent aerodynamics and reduces road noise.
Every option available on the Coupe can be had in convertibles, including the new Chevrolet Corvette features like OnStar, XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) and DVD navigation system.
OnStar is the leading provider of security services, security and information embedded in the U.S. and Canada. Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features basic security services and OnStar Personal allows drivers to make and receive hands-free voice activated phone calls using a powerful system of three-watt analog and external antenna for greater reception.
Power
In 2005 Chevrolet Corvette features a new 6.0L V-8 LS2 engine based on GM's Gen IV small-block family. LS2 is the most powerful standard small-block engine ever offered in the Corvette, and features:

All-new 319-T5 aluminum block casting the skirt in place of cast iron cylinder bore liners and cross-running major cap

Cylinder head design derived from the C5 Z06

Camshaft lift increased to take advantage of the increased flow head

Revised exhaust manifolds are 34 percent lighter

Compression raised to 10.9:1

A more powerful engine controller incorporates all electronic throttle control (ETC) function
With a base curb weight of £ 3.179 / 1.442 kg (Coupe) and 3.199 / £ 1.451 kg (Convertible) Chevrolet Corvette is significantly lighter than its predecessor.
This car is capable of 186 mph (300 km / h) faster than any production Corvette in history. Achieve zero to 100 km / h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds and 4.1 seconds with the optional Z51 Performance Package and covers a quarter mile in 12.6 seconds at 114 mph (183 KMH).
Shifting Gears
Tremec six-speed manual shift function is enhanced with features many improvements, including new synchronizers that reduce travel by 10 percent, and a redesigned shifter lever.
Tremec is available with two sets of ratios. Teeth are reserved for more aggressive Chevrolet Corvette Z51 performance package and adapted to numerical gears to improve acceleration higher. In addition, a lower fifth gear gives numerical fuel efficiency and Z51 top speed is higher than the basic model. To increase durability in sustained high-speed situations, Z51 and European user base-transmission models have a transmission cooler.
Hydra-Matic 4L65-E automatic transmission is an upgraded version of the C5 4L60-E, strengthened and revised to reflect the couple is the LS2. This includes Advanced Performance Algorithm Shifting GM, which automatically selects the optimum ratio for the given driving conditions.
To strengthen the internal mechanism, a set of five planetary gear added - replacing a four-tooth sprocket. Additional material that reduces friction and loads carried by all gears. For protection against high temperatures generated by high speed, an oil cooler was added to four plates.
Settle in
Passion for the exterior design is reflected in the new interior. Even with the outer dimensions of the car is more compact, the new interior has as much space available - including the cargo space of the first class, which can swallow two golf bags. Very good material, workmanship and help deliver premium quality features to enhance performance driving.
This theme was inspired by the Chevrolet Corvette dual cockpit heritage, with the features of the fluid above the cover line. The results provide a space for passengers and a pod located cluster for drivers.
Dashboard and door closed with cast-skin foam in place gasket that looks like leather wrapped, padded panel. It is warm and friendly, has a double life of conventional trim materials. Of aluminum trim add richness.
An AM / FM radio with MP3 compatible CD player and standards. The new technology increases conventional radio reception. Improved optional Bose audio with in-dash six-disc changer and XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only) add the options available to the audiophile owner.
A complete function OnStar system is available, and for the first time, Corvette offers onboard navigation as an option. Using a 6.5-inch (165 mm) color touch screen, DVD-based system contains all the data map for the United States and Canada on one disc.
Chassis

Overall vehicle weight is significantly reduced, although a growing body features such as larger wheels and tires, brakes and a stronger voice from the body increases. It also offers a quieter driving experience.
The car maintains the structure of hydroformed steel rail backbone, which has a cored composite floors, enclosed center tunnel, rear-mounted transmission and aluminum cockpit structure
Suspension cradles, control arms, books, springs, dampers, bushings, stabilizer bars and steering gear have all been redesigned. New Goodyear Extended Mobility Tires (EMT) take advantage of the sidewall design and compound technology for the latest run-flat capability
Three suspension choices allow drivers to choose the configuration that best suits their driving style. Standard suspension is tuned to balance comfort and precise handling. Chevrolet Corvette is now more willing to a higher level of manipulation, even easier to driv
The optional F55 Magnetic Selective Up Control suspension features magneto-rheological dampers able to detect road surfaces and adjust the level of depreciation surfaces almost instantly for optimal ride control. This system has been enhanced to provide greater differentiation between the "Tour" and "Sport" settings.
Z51 Performance Package brings Coupe performance very close to the Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 widely admired. The Z51 offers shocks and springs are more aggressive, larger stabilizer bars, and a large drilled brake discs (13.4 mm front and rear 13 mm inches/340 inches/330) for optimum street performance while providing a comfortable ride .
With each suspension, three standard dynamic chassis control systems - anti-lock braking, traction control and Active Handling - operate in concert. In all, a dynamic new chassis system intelligent control, less intrusive and more likely to make a total driving experience precisely what drivers have come to expect from their Corvette.
