Ford Mustang GT Review

5.0 is back! 2011 Ford Mustang GT comes with a brand new 5.0-liter V-8 engine up, which was developed by a core group of engineers who are passionate fans who had gathered around a common goal to provide more than 400 horsepower.
Modern 5.0-liter overhead cam four-valve dual independent variable distribution (Ti-VCT) V-8 engine in the Ford Mustang GT 412 will offer horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. At the same time, fuel economy should be better than previous models and unmatched in its class.
"This new 5.0-liter engine is the next chapter in the development of world-class Mustang powertrain portfolio," said Derrick Kuzak, vice president, Global Product Development "This is a modern machine for. Time, delivering performance and fun to drive factor that enthusiasts want while improving the economic of fuel. "
Coyote in the lobby
Many engineers from the development team has worked in the motor and electrical engineering building on campus in Dearborn, Michigan, the center of product development. Over the years they spend in front of the original Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 engine Indy exhibited in the lobby, continues inspired by his mixed heritage, high technology and power.
Powertrain development community has long wanted to develop a new 5.0-liter powerplant with strategic discussions beginning in 2000. In 2007, the Mustang competitive landscape began to change, a sign that it is time to move the world-class Ford Mustang GT powertrain.
The team began to develop a 5.0-liter engine with the goal of providing more than 400 horses on an accelerated schedule of 12 months, with no compromise in terms of economic reliability, durability of fuel, or noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) control.
"Almost all the team members worked on other major programs of the powertrain," said V-8 engine program manager Mike Harrison "They all have a clear vision for their work or component. Subsystems their passion for engines, racing and give every ounce of performance last over the entire range of engine speeds showed they really put their heads and their hearts into this powertrain .. "
Engine testing and development criteria, including 5.0-liter block, using a different drill and measuring stroke, four-valve cylinder heads and cams GT500, a different configuration of the intake manifold runners, different compression ratio and a deep sump oil pan. The team also evaluated Ford Racing 5.0-liter "Cammer" V-8 engine case for transferable best practices.
Extensive computer-aided engineering (CAE) modeling, testing and evaluation of motor development in combination with intricate machine work to bring this promising new configuration every breath of life within an accelerated time frame.
The results of this development is "and" solutions, not "or." 2011 Mustang buyers will enjoy the benefits of a strong engine and fuel economy that is responsible.
Ti-VCT

An important element in the 5.0-liter V-8 capacity to deliver 412 horsepower with maneuverability, obedience and improved fuel economy during the 2010 Ford Mustang GT powertrain, enhanced Ti-VCT.
For high performance applications, the team specified cam-torque variable camshaft control. The use of existing energy cam couples, with the help of pressurized oil, means that the marginal improvement in the oil pump is required, so that less parasitic drag. Increased volumetric and thermal efficiency of Ti-VCT gives faster response at all engine speeds.
During the development phase, the cam lift profile and port optimization starts with units raised more than the Ford Racing, modified for compatibility with various four-valve cylinder head. Extensive CAE and test performed at the event and the camshaft to improve the flow ports for performance and energy efficiency in collaboration with the variable camshaft.
All-new aluminum produced four valves per cylinder head features roller finger follower valvetrain compact to leave more room for high-speed performance to breathe free port. Head structures designed to withstand high pressure in the cylinder head and cross-flow cooling for sustained high rpm use. Bolt head size was increased from 11 to 12 millimeters contain higher combustion pressures.
Aluminum block was developed to improve oil drainback and conditions of dunnage and lateral high speed as a track-day enthusiasts output and owner drivers. Increasing the width of the main bearing bulkhead and nodular iron cross-bolted main bearing caps with upsized bolts are also used to meet a significant increase in performance.
An additional element is the increased capacity and confusing oil in sump stamped steel pan to enable sustained high rpm use and offer convenience drain intervals of 10,000 miles. Piston cooling jets have also been incorporated for performance-minded customers and accelerate the heating oil at cold start.
Specially designed tubular exhaust manifolds have been developed to maximize exhaust pulse separation and improve flow. A team of analysts actually make the head tube at the studio at home, bringing CAE design to life.
Performance and fuel economy
Power 412 and 390 lb-ft of torque delivered by the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0-liter V-8 is a significant increase in 2010 output model year.
Six-speed automatic transmission on a 2011 Ford Mustang GT will deliver up to about 25 and 17 mpg highway in the city. This represents an increase of 23 mpg city and 17 highway for the 2010 model. Six-speed manual transmission for 2011 Ford Mustang GT models are designed to deliver 24 mpg city and 16 highway, according to the 2010 model, but the horses feel the performance of delivery and more.
2011 Ford Mustang GT fuel economy enabled by the Ti-VCT, six-speed automatic transmission or manual variables, EPA and the extra seal on the rear trunk lid to improve aerodynamics.
Fuel economy is also assisted by lightweight powertrain engineering. Machines, such as delivered, weighs only 430 pounds. This is a weight gain of more than 20 percent from the previous 5.0-liter offerings. Lower mass can be attributed to the aluminum block and heads, intake manifolds lightweight composite cam covers and hollow camshafts.
Improved driving dynamics

EPA has made a significant contribution to the Ford Mustang GT driving dynamics, delivering faster response on the central management, business improvement at highway speeds and reduce the effort required in the parking maneuver at low speeds. EPA allows specific tuning for the Ford Mustang GT applications.
2011 Ford Mustang GT has a reinforced rear control arms to increase the low stiffness, improve powertrain NVH control and sharpen handling. A rear stabilizer bar for the more rigid the direction of the center are also included. Diameter stabilizer bars, shocks and spring rates have all been tuned to improve the dynamics.
Brembo brake package upgrade will be available for the serious amateur. This package includes 14-inch ventilated front discs from the Mustang GT500, unique wheels and tires 19-inch summer performance.
Fill in comfort
For 2011, Ford Mustang GT offers the convenience of drivers several new technologies, including:

Message Center Standards

Integrated blind spot mirrors

MyKey ™ programmable vehicle key

Illuminated visor

Opening the doors open

Sun visor storage
New look
5.0 badges from the new wing for the cap, the Ford Mustang GT and continue to proudly honor the legacy of his predecessor. Speedometer speedometer goes to 160 mph and 6500-7000 rpm Redline progress.
Three new bright colors will be added for 2011 including Blaze Tri-Coat, Race Red Yellow and Silver bullion.
Improved NVH control and conversion of stiffness
For 2011, Ford Mustang GT benefits across-the-board improvements in NVH. These include additional soundproofing material on each side of the dashboard, an additional seal between the door and side skirts to reduce wind noise and a real ship wheel arches to reduce noise gravel or wet surfaces.
Ford Mustang GT convertible models feature enhanced structural rigidity, with lateral rigidity increased by 12 percent compared with 2010 models. A corset to turn round the front legs are now the norm, and V-resistance has stiffened by adding gussets. Through high school has also been tightened while the Z-brace front was added, connecting primary and secondary bonds. A rigid foam pillars have also been added for increased rigidity.
"The Heritage Mustang powertrain honor by raising the bar of performance while improving fuel economy," said Barb Samardzich, vice president, Powertrain Development. "For fans, a passionate member of, 5 0 liter V-8 teams like to have cake and eat it too."
