Ford Shelby SVT Cobra GT500 Mustang Review



Shelby and Ford returned with a Shelby Mustang brand, the Shelby GT500 for model year 2007. Presented at the 2005 New York Auto International exhibition, the GT500 uses a supercharged V8 5.4 L modular, which shares components with the Ford GT supercar, and R. 2000 Cobra
Plants produce the strongest is always the new Mustang Shelby GT500. Car & Driver put the Shelby GT500 against the Corvette (Z51 package) and can not get a quarter mile 12.9 seconds while the Corvette ran 12.8. Road & Track magazine could muster only a quarter mile 13.1 of the Shelby GT500. However, muscle and Fast Ford Mustang (August 2006 edition) recorded a low 12 second show (best: 12.257s), with trap speeds over 117 mph (temperature 66 degrees F, humidity 46%, pressure 29.9).
Transmission / Gearing / clutch:
First gear is 2.97:1 (vs. 2.66 in 2003 and 2004). Back-end ratio of 3:31 (vs. 3.55 in 2003). Overall gear ratio in the first 9.831 (9.443 vs. 2003). 6 also the same ratio as in 2003 (0.63:1). Is a double disc clutch (215 mm = 8.44 in) from Valeo. (Smaller diameter reduces polar moment of inertia of the mass loss is less inertia during acceleration.)
Engine:


 

Wet-sumped 5.4 L 500 hp iron block with aluminum heads. Bore x stroke 3.552 x 4.165 inches, producing 330 in ³ (5409 cc) displacement. 8.4:1 static compression ratio (the same as the Ford GT, but the Cobras vs. 8.5:1 in 2003.) Forged steel crankshaft Ford GT. Manley connecting rods which claims are tied with Manley engineers in 2003s, but cheaper. Head directly from the GT, including cams, valves, springs and ports, and even has the same part number. Peak power at 6000 rpm and 6250 rpm Redline.
Supercharger:Eaton M122H (H for hybrid gene revised ... blower 5) Roots-style blower 9 psi increase in use. It has redesigned rotor and port design Eaton currently claims a 15% increase in adiabatic efficiency on this M112. SVT is considering using a twin-screw Lysolm unit, but decided for reasons of supply.

Suspension:
Stock Mustang GT K-member. Revised bushings, springs and shock levels.
Brakes:
14 "front rotors with Brembo 4-piston calipers. Tears are stock Mustang GT, but bearing different.
Tires:
285/40ZR18 255/45ZR18 in the rear and front Goodyear Eagle Supercar.
