Lexus IS-F Review

Many new developments IS-F took place at Fuji Speedway and the Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Japan. IS-F is based on the proven rear-wheel Lexus IS, which is equipped with front and rear multilink double wishbone suspension. And IS doing, Lexus engineers demanded much more of the new IS-F. The result is a performance tuned 5.0-liter V8 engine, topped with specially designed heads fed by a two-stage intake, which produces 400 horsepower and more, and more than 350 lb-ft. of torque. All-new IS-F is equipped with engine oil cooler and transmission fluids and high speed performance oil pump bolt-scan high g-force driving.
IS-F engine is coupled with the first eight-speed direct sport shifter. A torque converter lock-up control was developed that allows the shift, immediately evident through the constant lock-up torque converter in second through eighth gear. Drive mode, the IS-F transmission performs great subtlety, and the torque converter allows for great launch ability for fast standing start acceleration that will register zero to 60 times in less than 4.9 seconds.
This unique transmission also features an advanced Manual mode. A pair of paddles located within reach of the finger behind the wheel allows the driver to make ultra-quick gear changes make a change in tenths of seconds. Demotion accompanied by automated throttle blips and incredible engine speed to precisely match the vehicle speed.
Remarkable acceleration obtained by the IS-F requires it equipped with Brembo brakes are designed with a strong specification of the Lexus engineering team. Large, 14.2-inch drilled front discs are gripped by rigid, strong aluminum calipers with six pistons, while the 13.6-inch rear drilled discs feature two-piston. High-friction brake pads are equipped on all four wheels. Brakes are finished with the Lexus name displayed on the calipers, a first for Lexus production vehicle.

IS-F features specially designed 19-inch forged alloy wheels as standard. Wheels built to Lexus specifications by BBS and are surrounded by high-performance sport tires.
The attention to performance also extends to a modified suspension that lowers the entire car by more than half an inch from the bottom, and a full inch as compared to IS models equipped with 18-inch wheels. This specially modified suspension allows for a hard pull and energetic, both on the race track or on the street.
IS-F is equipped with a new three-mode version of Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM). In addition to the normal mode, the new VDIM features a Sport mode allows the driver to push the car even before the braking acceleration, and steering control systems kick in. The third mode is disabled VDIM system, which allows the pilot to push the IS-F to the highest level of handling performance.
Attention to performance modifications come with the style cues that differentiate the IS-F IS standard. Lexus IS-F provides engineers with a dual exhaust system and quad-tail pipes, wider front fenders, and a larger grille and rear spoiler. Both the hood and lower intake enlarged to accommodate and cool the V8 engine.

Like the exterior, the interior of the IS-F receives unique style with aluminized composite surface treatments and special trim. The instrument panel includes an indicator to measure the temperature and oil displacement status, while "F" logo is displayed on the rear wheel and center console.
In addition to usual Lexus standards of comfort and convenience in the IS-F features specially shaped and trimmed seats that hold the driver comfortably and securely in place. Special sport seats are available in black or a single plate, high-contrast black and white.
"The purpose of creating the IS-F to not be a competitor to other performance-sport sedans," said Carter "On the contrary., Goal is to create a true performance sedan in a uniquely Lexus way-one that is truly authentic with a unique interpretation of raw driving experience at all speeds and provides a new definition of 'usable power. "
IS-F will arrive at Lexus dealerships in early 2008.
